Auslan sign: bat
Activity:
Go for a quiet night time walk with your family or friends, take a torch and see what you can find at night, especially in trees: Common Brushtail Possums, Eastern Ringtail Possums, and nocturnal birds like the Tawny Frogmouth, you may also be lucky enough to see Grey-headed Flying-foxes and microbats too. Microbats shelter in hollows with tiny entrances, and can sometimes be seen leaving these roosts after sunset.
Microbats are important predators of invertebrates, particularly moths, beetles and spiders, eating about a third of their own body weight each night! Think about how much you’d have to eat to match that feat (and be able to fly!)
